De Gea remains a free agent following his summer exit from Manchester United. The goalkeeper has been linked with moves to several sides already but has yet to agree a deal. Newcastle have become the latest club to be linked with the former Spain international after losing first-choice stopper Nick Pope to a serious shoulder injury.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been coy when asked about speculation the Magpies could move for De Gea but has confirmed Pope will be out for four months. Martin Dubravka will deputise for the time being, but the club could well move for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
