Neil Lennon makes Edouard revelation

Neil Lennon has revealed what he would do with Odsonne Edouard “tomorrow” if he was Peter Lawwell.

A journalist by the name of Ignazio Genuardi revealed on Monday that the Hoops are planning to offer the French striker a ‘significant salary increase’ and also offer him a gentleman’s agreement that he can leave in the summer of 2021.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is believed to be in the sights of ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as a target for Leicester, who look likely to reach the Champions League this term – they are currently third in the Premier League.

The reigning Scottish champions won’t want to lose Edouard, given the fact that he has netted an astonishing 26 goals this season as well as 17 assists – he also bagged 22 strikes last term.

However, Lennon has revealed what he would do with the striker if it was his decision.

What did he say?

Lennon said: “I’d love to give him new deal – I’d give him a five-year deal tomorrow. If there’s something in the offing then brilliant.

“Odsonne’s improving all the time. He’s a talismanic player for us – he’s been absolutely magnificent this season. But I think there’s more to come from him. I hope he’s doing that here with us.”

Remains to be seen

Edouard has a contract at Celtic Park until the summer of 2022, but the fact that the club are believed to be open to a gentleman’s agreement – which would see him be allowed to leave in 2021 – speaks volumes as to how uncertain they are of him staying that long.

It is understandable. This is a forward with 48 goals across the last two seasons, and one who has bundles of time on his side at just 22 years of age.

Of course Lennon – as a manager – would like to tie his best player down for as long as possible, although realistically, the Scottish champions may well have a true battle on their hands to keep him given his form.

In other news, these Celtic fans are still complaining about a “shocking” 79th minute moment against St Johnstone…
