After Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto raced out of goal to deny the onrushing Raheem Sterling, his clearance found its way to Chelsea midfielder Caicedo; who took a touch and fired a long-range effort into an empty net to send a packed Stamford Bridge wild.

This was the Ecuadorian international's first goal since joining Chelsea from Brighton for £115 million ($145.6m) last summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Caicedo arrived for a British transfer fee record last August but has largely been a shadow of the player he was at Brighton compared to Chelsea. The 22-year-old produced a catalogue of errors in the first half of the season and repeatedly looked off the pace, while forming part of a dysfunctional Blues midfield. However, he has finally found his feet at Stamford Bridge and this goal shows he is recapturing his former swagger. The 2024-25 Caicedo could be a force to be reckoned with.
